Greate Except For Holding Funds

Typical credit union for the most part. Friendly service in the one Madison County location.

My only complaint is that check deposits have a 2-day hold for amounts over $200. I also had a $15,000 check subject to a 7-day hold. (Not sure what the threshold is for the longer holding). Direct deposits and paychecks are not subject to holding.

I understand a need for this at some level, but I've had the account for more than a year with dozens of paper check deposits and not a single one has bounced. The tellers keep telling me that the holding will eventually stop but they can't tell me when.

Montgomery Location Is Inconvenient

Posted by: duncan | May 15, 2013

I have been banking with Alabama Telco for years, originally opening my account in Trussville, north of Birmingham. I was pleased with my service in the Trussville location. They had a sign in the drive-through requesting customers to have their deposits ready when using drive-through services. Since moving to Montgomery, I have had to use the Atlanta Highway location. It is inconveniently located, and the drive-through takes forever. Customers sit in their car and fill out their deposit slips while at the window, and there is usually only one window open. Needless to say, I wish I could take my business elsewhere, but let's face it all the larger banks are unfriendly (I have done business with Regions and Compass). The drive-through is definitely not an express service.

Forced To Close Account

I moved my accounts to Avadian after being with Wells Fargo for over 20 plus years. So many issues from the beginning. Holding my husband's weekly bill check "because my account was new" even though he had a credit union account too. Having my card declined because I was traveling in Georgia. Why do I need to tell a bank my every move? And why wouldn't they inform me of what they were doing instead of having me be thoroughly embarrassed. Thankfully my friend had enough to pay for my meal. Signing me up for ATM reimbursement, but failing to tell me that I have to keep up with every single receipt for the ATM transaction to get reimbursed. First of all who keeps up with all of those receipts? Second of all that seems to be something that should have been told to me when I open the account. As another person also stated...why should I have to take off my hat...the security guard was standing right there? I've been to Wells Fargo and BBVA with a hat on and have never been asked to remove my hat. There i was with a scarf and my hair falling. I was so embarrassed. Lastly, I've been having problems with having my account hacked. I asked avadian to put a block on the merchant. Their response is there's nothing they could do...it's a VISA problem. I told them I felt bad because they were having to reimburse the fraud each time. Again their response it's just what we have to do. So why is it today I get a phone call saying effective immediately I'm no longer eligible to have a debit or credit card with this bank because of the fraud for which I beg them to block all transactions from that Merchant! So I'm basically being punished for something that is out of my control and that I have asked them to help me with. Funny thing is I don't have this problem with my other bank nor did I have this problem with my previous bank. Sounds like it's an avadian problem to me! So I'm glad I'm gone and I won't be recommending them to anyone else!

Have To Dress A Certain Way.

I took my niece to start up an account and security would not let us in. My niece had just washed her hair and explained her hair was a mess., she even pulled the hat all the way to top of her head. Security still would not let her in. We went to three different banks with the hat on just to see if they would make her remove the hat, none of them asked her to remove hat.please do not support this bank I think this was ridiculous. Your being prejudice caused this bank to loose 16,000.00. You got security right their you idiots.

Poor Policies In Place

Posted by: 123Edit321 | Sep 8, 2015

First let me say that the branch tellers are very nice and friendly and because of this, I was planning to move my accounts over to this credit union because since moving here from out of state, I don't have branches of my regular bank. However, direct deposit and mobile banking is good enough and after the poor treatment at Avadian, I think I will stay put. I feel guilty now for bringing my stepson in for him to open his first account there.
First of all, their overdraft policy is ridiculous. I have an ACH withdrawal and I always make sure the funds are there. However, I paid off a credit card ($2.67) and by my own error, selected Avadian instead of one of the banks that I actually use and deposit more funds to. When the item came in I only had $0.04 in the checking, but I did have decent funds in the savings so they could have taken from there through an transfer if need be and if I did not pay off the $2.63 overdraft that paying this item would have caused. Instead they returned it! AND charged me a $30 overdraft fee! for $2.63 of an overdraft. Many banks these days don't even charge until its $5! I wouldn't be so upset if they had just paid the item and charged the fee, but they couldn't even do that. Even though for 3 years I have been there every single month to make a deposit for the ACH item and I have money in the savings.
How ridiculous is that? There is no way that I would bring over my accounts after this.
Also, last year I wanted to do something with my children s money and set up an appt with the financial guy to do a mutual fund. I set up one for both of my kids, but when I got the first statement the moneys were backwards, the 11 yr old had the smaller amount and the 4 yr old had the larger, even though I was specific that I wanted the younger to have less because I have financial goals that will be met by certain ages and the 11 yr old is older. Also it was just sitting there in nothing. He fixed the amounts, but then the next statement came and it was STILL in the account earning just 0.02% and still not in mutual funds. I called, he apologized and would fix it. The next month, still in the account at 0.02% not in the mutual funds that I requested and just sitting there. At that point I sent him an email and told him to simply pull the money and give it back to me so I can put it into a CD at USAA earning 10x as much. He did give the money back, but no response to the message, no apology, nothing. Do they always use incompetent individuals? Surely these two things didn't just happen to me because I have bad luck. Stay away, stay far far away.

Wish I Could Give Zero Stars

When we first opened our account at Alabama Telco in Montgomery every thing was great. We applied for a car loan and instantly we were approved for more than we were asking. We did not miss a payment and everything was fine. We then decided that we wanted to buy land and eventually build on that land. The land cost less than what our car cost, but the only reason we were given for being denied was that people my age and my wife's age (25, 24) just are not mature enough to know that they want to buy land and build. It also took us a month to get this response. Luckily we go financing through the seller and not only did we save $5,000 we also paid off the land in less than a year. There are some very nice people in the office in Montgomery, but there are three that I would not trust at all. Needless to say my wife and I will be swithching over to a more reputable bank.

A FREE Checking Will COST You For Seven (7) Years!

In May of 2012, I opened an account with Alabama Telco Credit Union. At the time, they only had one location in Montgomery, but the person who helped me assured me that, as a member of the network, I could use any credit union downtown. When I tried to use credit unions downtown, they told me that Alabama Telco was not part of the network.

Note: The woman at Telco (caucasian with a short bob) came into Telco on Saturdays and didn't really seem sure as to how to answer my questions.

The following week, I returned to Telco and told them that other credit unions would not assist their members in the Montgomery area. Their response was: "we are open from 8:45 to 5:00; the extended hours mean you can always come to the Atlanta Hwy location." I told the person sitting at the desk (the first one entering the building) that this was not acceptable. She called the branch manager over and they both agreed that the Atlanta Hwy was the only location I could use.

I told the person sitting at the desk that I wished to close my account. I specifically asked would I owe anything since I was closing it within a couple of weeks of opening it. She told me NO. I then proceeded to the teller and withdrew the money I had deposited (not a large amount).

At the end of May 2012, I received a statement stating my account was zero. I considered the matter closed.

In October of 2012, Alabama Telco contacted the credit bureaus and reported a $5.46 charge off on my account. Alabama Telco contends that I owe them for checks they ordered and told me were free at the time I opened my account. When I closed my account, I was not informed I owed anything. When I found out that this had happened, I immediately went to Alabama Telco. Their response is that "We sent you statements saying you owed $5.46 and, therefore, it is your fault it got charged off." I asked how did I owe $5.46 and she said I owed SHIPPING AND HANDLING on the checks. I never was informed of this and, again, they could have subtracted that amount from the deposit that had already been made and withdrawn. Their response: "you should have known the money would be withdrawn from your account after the checks came in." Came in WHERE; WHERE are these checks?

How exactly can a bank customer be charged for FREE Checks AFTER their account is closed and AFTER they are informed that they owe nothing and are given a FULL REFUND on their account. Now, my credit report is messed up for 7 years.
